What Is This?

More than anything else, a repository.

A repository of links (and likely occasion rants) that offer something, hopefully helpful, towards those that conduct their lives in x86 architecture. The success of Intel, particularly with attribution to the IBM PC, brings most into the fold whether the OS is a Microsoft, Linux or Apple derivative.

This humble blog is likely to address Windows in particular with an expected venture towards Linux OS distros and software. No offense to Apple / OSX, but as a computer hobbyist and novice, Apple's proprietary laden machines cannot offer the affordability that I appreciate.

What this will begin with is links to software that are free and often open source. I expect to exclude trial and shareware. I will not link to anything that I believe is bundled with, or is itself, malware. Whenever possible each link will be to the owner's main page. I do not plan to seek permission for the link (unless it is implied) and thereby feel it is proper to offer the opportunity for a look at each version's retail offering (if there is one).

I expect this to be productive for me as a resource, particularly following the clean installs that I do every so often. I learned long ago that working in a Windows world necessitates such tasks. No ill towards Redmond is intended, but Considering the abundance of code available coupled with the maliciousness of some, conflicts and data corruption are bound to occur. Indeed, some of the utility recommendations are from first hand experience.

I would like this to be productive for others. This is not a capital venture, but only a use of a free resource to promote other free resources. So that is that. Without further delay, but probably much debate and certainly not completely related context.....
